Patricia Sawyer Benner (born on August 31, 1942) is a nursing theorist, academic and author. She is known for one of her books, From Novice to Expert: Excellence and Power in Clinical Nursing Practice (1984). A noted nursing educator, Patricia Benner is a Professor Emerita in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. She is a former senior scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, for which she authored a study titled Educating Nurses: A Call for Radical Transformation.
